Yasmine Shemesh is a writer and music journalist from Vancouver. She specializes in interview profiles and long-form essays, and has a particular interest in 1990s and 2000s pop culture. 

Yasmine has written for Billboard, MTV News, NYLON, ELLE Canada, Exclaim!, Recording Academy/the GRAMMYs, Alternative Press, MONTECRISTO Magazine, RANGE, and others.

She is a former music editor at the Georgia Straight. 

She has been included in Invisible Publishing’s Best Canadian Music Writing lists for her stories on Witch Prophet (Georgia Straight, 2023) and PUP (RANGE, 2025).

Yasmine sits on the jury of the Polaris Music Prize (serving on the Grand Jury in 2021), through which she’s been invited as a guest speaker on CBC Radio, Canada’s national public broadcaster. She has also been invited to appear as a guest speaker on FRANCE 24, France’s international television network, and as a presenter at Word Vancouver, Western Canada’s largest free literary festival.
